Meet The Team
Luke has been cooking since he was 16 years old, when he began volunteering in the kitchen for Meals on Wheels. After high school he lived in Hawaii for one year which broadened his appreciation for food, as he was able to explore new cuisines like sushi and Thai food. He fell in love with the fresh fruit and fish available everywhere as well as traditions like cooking Kalua pig underground. One of his favorite experiences was spear fishing, catching mahi mahi, snapper and other tropical fish and immediately cook it over live fire.
Luke’s experience includes various positions as cook, manager and pitmaster for many popular restaurants in the area. He developed a passion for smoking food serving as the pitmaster for Brewster’s for nine years. Coming to Main Street Smokehouse was a natural fit for Luke. He enjoys the hard work, passion and creativity that he and the team put into each dish. He describes the process of smoking 100% woodfired food next to the river like “getting to have a campfire every day.” What could be better than that?
When he’s not manning the smokers, Luke finds peace in the great outdoors whether on a sandy beach, in the woods or gardening. He also enjoys spending quality time with his daughter.
Ron brings more than 20 years of culinary experience to Main Street Smokehouse. Growing up in the Detroit area, Ron’s family has been a huge influence on his career. As a child, he was always baking bread and cooking traditional Finnish meals with his mother. His dad inspired his passion for smoking BBQ and he’s been perfecting his craft on his home smoker for many years.
Most recently Ron was the executive chef at Latitude 42 in Portage and prior to that he was the sous chef at North 11 in Kalamazoo. He enjoys cooking many types of cuisine, but his favorite thing to cook is seafood. His jerk seafood gumbo with lobster landed him as a finalist in a popular Michigan gumbo competition.
In his free time, Ron loves to fish and ride his Harley Davidson motorcycle. A self-proclaimed family man, he enjoys spending time with his wife and five teenagers.
Ron brings his passion and creativity to the kitchen every day. He’s thrilled to be able to bring something unique and exciting to SW Michigan as executive chef of Main Street Smokehouse.
We are located along the beautiful St. Joseph River in Mendon, MI. Outdoor seating on our multi-level decks, weather permitting. Parking available directly across the street. Reservations are highly encouraged.
